I think I'm going to be a grandma soon

I just saw my societies breeding, plus they've been in and out of the nest and adding material last few days. Is that a good indication that I have a pair?? I have to say that was sure luck that I only got two and they happen to be a pair but after I found out the one I picked was a baby and had to pick another, I watched for a long time till I could find one that sung and happen to have already picked up a female. The bird store owner and I think that the fawn I picked happened to be the mother of the fawn baby because all the other societies are chocolate or chestnut.
Anyway, if that's the case and she just had a clutch a few months ago I hope she will be ok now. I've been making eggfood and leave an endless supply of oyster shells and give them a good variety of foods so hopefully that will help them. Keeping fingers crossed

Thanks Liz. If these socities are good parents maybe they can help me with the goulds in the future if they ever get comfortable enough to breed. I've since taken the nest out with the goulds. They don't seem the least bit interested. Maybe I'll have to wait for my aviary with them
Right now It seems the male is the only one of the goulds that is going through a slight molt. It doesn't look too bad just some pin feathers around the neck and head. I'm not sure what to expect though as they are my first. The female doesn't seem to be in molt. I guess they have degrees of moult? Also, I guess if at least one of the pair is in molt than that means they will not be breeding anytime soon anyway, right?

It is always a good idea to have society finches if you ever breed gouldians.
If your goulds are molting, they will not breed. It will be after the molt is over and your hens beak turns black.

Thanks Donna, that's what I figured. I'm in no hurry till I have more space for the babies anyway. Right now I'll be happy with a few society babies
