Time to switch females?

Post by BekNazar » Thu Jan 04, 2007 2:07 pm

Hi all,

I have 3 Gouldian pairs. One Yellow pair (on 4 eggs now).
One normal red headed pair and one mixed pair (male is SF Yellow) both
Yellow headed. Each pair in a seperate breeding cage.
As soon as I gave them nests the yellow-bodied and yellow headed males started building nests. Yellow-bodied pair already on eggs. The normal red headed pair have always been a pair, sitting/sleeping close, etc. He dances and sings for her but he has not started to build a nest. The yellow headed male has built a really nice nest but the female seems uninterested in him (she has been in and out of the nest to check it out though) as he doesn't sing or dance for her (at least I haven't seen it).
Should I be patient? Time to switch the females and see if they behave differently?

Cheers,
Todd

You could try that.

You could also try changing their diet -- give vitamin supplements or parsley for vitamin a, make sure they have enough iodine & protein.

I've never seen one of my females show any interest in her male, yet eggs do show up in their nest! Maybe some just keep it private....
