Green Singers - how old can they normally breed?

Post by Nipper06 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:26 am

My Green Singer female has a 2002 leg band. Last year she laid many eggs and produced only a single chick. This year, many clutches but no viable eggs. Is this about what I can expect from a 7 year old hen? Is she likely "done" as a breeder now?

The male has a silver band and may possibly be older - but, with the silver bad, it's hard to read the year number without catching him. Does anyone know what years NFSS used silver colored aluminum bands in the last 10 years?

Here's my female - she is happy to breed but no fertile eggs this year!

Here's the male - he's so old he's bald !!! But I think it's from an injury he got before he came to me.

And here is last year's single baby - Tweetzi - as seen this time last year. He has a mate from PetSmart now and they are set up for breeding but so far no action! Tweetzi's mate is nervous and might be wild-trapped unfortunately - but it would be good to get her new genes into the captive Green Singer population some day.

I wonder when the NFSS bands were silver before 2004 ?? He could be that old for all I know !! I guess I need to catch him and read it up-close, to know the year for sure.
