i tried one of these for my finches but they only sleep on top of it or steal the nest material out of it. they don't want to go inside. any help i am trying to prevent the chicks from being tossed as well as more room for the adults as though i have multiple woven nests they all cram into one.

hi rogue
if they are societies then that is quite common for them to all sleep in the same nest.....if the wooden nest has a lid try one without a lid so that the top is open and they can see inside

Yeah, sometimes they are reluctant go in if the nestbox is too dark.

It depends on what birds you have. Some won't even look at them, or they are only sitting on top of it.
There are even fewer birds using a closed nest box (with a round hole in it).
Maybe you can get a nest box which is to the front half open.
