Regular male and Fancy Female

Post by pushtoowala » Sat Mar 31, 2007 10:58 am

I want to breed a pair of zebras soon. The male is a regular looking type of zebra and the femal is all white with black teardrop under her eyes. I think they call it florida fancy mutation. If I breed these two birds, how with their babies look?

My two zebras recently had babies. The male was normal looking and the female is all white with no teardrop. The babies are getting their adult colors still, but you can see pictures of them in my post under Breeding. The topic title is "Good News" I ended up with one white chick with some fawn coloring on her back. The rest are grey and one has some white wing feathers (pied?) but like I said, they are still getting their grown up feathers. I'll post more pics when they are done getting new feathers so you can see what they ended up looking like. I think it would be neat to have a white male with orange cheeks and the brown spotted flanks. That would look cool! Well, hope this helps. :)

I bred my normal male to my female that is white with a black tear drop, she also has some grey shading on the back of her head and down her back, I've been told she's a CFW. Their babies don't have their grown up feathers yet but they look like they're all going to be normals. According to the finch calculator on zebrafinch.info if your female is an Isabel and your male is homozygous normal (ie he's not split for anything) all your babies will look like dad, but will be carrying the gene for the Isabel colour. Oh Isabel is the same thing as Florida Fancy :) If she's a CFW, you'll get all your babies looking like dad, but the males will carry the CFW genes. My female is the bird pictured in my avatar if you want to compare mine with yours :)

Florida fancy hens do not have tear drops. An all white hen with a black teardrop is a CFW.

Florida fancy hens have off-white bodies, buff underparts, and no markings.
