NEW BABIES!

Post by EmilyHurd » Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:58 pm

Well... two of the eggs have hatched and their are two tiny naked chicks! I'm very excited. They have 3 more eggs, but I think only two more will hatch!

Also... how soon after they hatch do the parents start feeding them. I think they just hatched this morning...

The babies usually subsist on the remainder of the yolk they have to absorb before they need to be fed--parents usually begin feeding by day 2-3.

Congrats :)

Thanks guys!

So the babies are 11 days old now... getting bigger, parents doing a good job :) but they still have no feathers! They are so cute and funny looking at the same time  When are societies supposed to get feathers? I've only had zebra babies, and they are different than these naked society chicks!

I had 4 hatch, but they tossed one on the second day of hatching and that baby died :( but they kept the other 3!

hi emily
by the end of 14 days you should see signs of pin feathers coming through, they may have tossed the chick beacause it may have been ill or maybe something else that you did not notice as they will not waste time feeding the runt if its not going to survive..they put a lot of time and energy into rearing as no doubt you have found out already so if they felt it would not survive they will of course throw it out

ken
you can always tell a yorkshireman, but you cant tell him much
