I have a new pair with their first clutch and there seem to be bubbles in at least one egg.

And do you have any idea why this happens?
I believe loose or multiple small bubbles in an egg indicates a puncture/hole somewhere and external air has gotten inside. I always discard these.

Hi
My zebra finch female laid a double-yolked egg today. I was wandering if the egg was fertilised and it was incubated would it hatch? Is it even possible?
The egg is quite big - 1,71 g.

It is a great shot. I tried to incubate my double-yolk egg, it was fertile, but it died after two days of incubation. I didn't expect it to hatch because it was just a bit heavier than the regular egg.
You can check this post too http://finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7803&start=0
You can try to incuate it, but you can expect to get DIS only.
Was your hen young?

The hen isn't actually young. She is 2 years old. She normally lays eggs that weigh about 1,3 g. This egg was bigger. But also her yesterday's egg was enormously big (1,84 g), but it had 1 yolk.
I don't know if it is fertile. I put it under a hen that had infertile eggs. I will candle it in few days and see what's happening.

In the double-yolked egg there is only one embryo developing. Does it have a chance for living? What do you think?

Wow, what a picture! We will know the answer in a day or two, but my guess would be that the dead embryo will kill alive.

I think that only one egg cell was fertilised and that's why only one embryo started developing. I won't be at home for 3 days, so I will check the egg on Saturday evening.

Very interesting turn of events.
I would think that the good embryo should be able to develop, as you can no longer even see that there was a second. [-o<

The chick from double egg has hatched :) It isn't bigger than an average hachling. You can see it in the middle between the older foster siblings ;)

Wow, congrats!! That little one beat all the odds. So its smaller size is only because the two others are older?

Yes. The others are older. Unfortunately the little one died because it was't fed... The rest is ok.

I got one of those LED flashlights with the bendable neck that someone recommended. It works MUCH better than the mini-maglight that I used before. I can get it down to the egg easier inside the nest and then illuminate the egg from the side.

Thanks for the tip on the LED flashlight.
