Water feeders

I've purchased, I don't don't know how many, 6-10 ounce water feeders from various places including LadyGouldianFinch.com.
They seem to leak. They came out with a different type, but the feeder part is too wide for it to fit between the bars of the cage.
It seems like whenever I visit a friend's house, they use the same feeders. I can't be the only one who has had bad luck with them. They are the blue bottoms with translucent bottles.

If you post a pic of them or a link to a pic of them - it may help. I only use dishes filled with water as I've only ever gotten leakers when I purchased water bottles with tubes for the birds to drink from.

I haven't tried the newer style since it's too wide to fit thru the bars.

Oh I see - not what I was thinking of at all. Thanks for the pics - hopefully someone else who uses those type of waterers can help.

I had the same problem with those and the grip that goes around the bottle and attaches to the cage is not sturdy and can fall off if bumped. I found the ones I posted work fairly well. With any waterer I would include a dish or cup of water just incase the waterer fails at first.

Just out of curiosity why don't you all use the waterers with the ball valve at the end? They keep a lot cleaner...

However, I have to admit I don't like my seed cups at all -- anybody have seed cups you really like?

I'm always afraid the ball will stick leaving the birds without water or in some cases they learn to hold the ball up and back for a free flowing shower! Which then leaves them with no water too :\

BTW Anna - the water bottle on their travel cage is what they are used to - they have never seen a water bottle with the balls....

Janine...I love these also...I am usually home to change water throughout the day if needed. I am am gone overnight and my husband does the tending, I add the waterers...they work great.

Anna, the ones with the balls I have uses with hamsters and a few times the ball jams, no water can be gotten out of it. I won't use them on the birds...large parrots might be able to use their tongue to loosen the ball but i would not risk it.

Misty..I have thought about using the trough feeders...opposed to a bowl. Do they sit on these at all? Mess on them?

No they don't seem to sit on these like they do the feeders that come with the cages with the hoods on them I never really see poop on them at all now that I think about it....

Thank you Misty....I think I know what my finches might get for Christmas besides a 50 lb bag of seed/20 lbs of pellets!!! The troughs look like a good way to keep the seed from being knocked about....my little dog just loves licking it up off the floor!!!

I use a similar waterer, but smaller. I had trouble with them leaking, too at first. They will leak if the bottom part is closer to the cage wire than the top of the feeder (i.e. it leans out from the cage at the top). If it stands absolutely vertically, you shouldn't have a problem. Maybe find something to put between the cage and the bottom of the tube near the trough, to keep it vertical, or put picture wire around the top to hold the entire tube more vertical.

I use this kind that sits in the bottom of the cage/aviary. It's great. I never have to worry about them running out of water or it leaking.

I've used that one too until some one figured out how to poop in it! I did love those but after seeing so much poop from my birds I gave them up. Turds! Literally

These could be a nuisance, though, when you want to change the paper, because they sit on the tray at the bottom, unless you only change the paper/bedding at the same time as the water. I only use this type if I'm going away for a weekend.
