Lots of great pictures and information with frequent updates!
Recent News Includes:
The STGF has now recruited kids from Wyndham High School as volunteers helping to build nest boxes for wild Gouldians (under the appropriate supervision of the research team). They've organized the group under the name "Bush Rangers." This is a great way to bring young people into the program with productive and rewarding work.
So your donation to the STGF Nest Box Project now adds the materials for another nest box and also puts kids to work helping to make a difference!

Amazing work you all are doing. I really enjoy reading the facebook page... all those nest boxes in that pile ...wow. How far of rang are they hung? do you ever hang more than one nest box in the same tree?

Hi Candace,CandoAviary wrote:How far of range are they hung? Do you ever hang more than one nest box in the same tree?
When I was there in 2008 they had about 400 nest boxes mounted in an area about 3 or 4 miles long by 1 mile wide following a ridgeline in an area of Eucalyptus trees and tall grasses.
They did not have more than one nest box in any one tree that I remember. The nest boxes were typically separated by several hundred feet. In the wild, Gouldians have been recorded nesting as far as 10 miles from the next nearest Gouldian nest site. They operate in loose groups when not breeding and then spread out into pairs during the breeding season. They are not natural colony breeders, although they may live in the same neighborhood
Thanks!

Re: STGF on Facebook!
That is what I understood, that they were not so much of a tight flocking species and prefered distance from neighbors when breeding. Lots of time into placing all those boxes Thanks for the hands on information..... I need to go sponser a couple more boxes
