Certified Avian Specialist

Post by waxbill lover » Sun Jan 29, 2012 11:31 pm

Has anyone taken the Certified Avian Specialist course? I see there is one in Canada you can do through distance education with PIJAC, and there are several out of the states.
The odd time I see someone advertising that they are a CAS. What does this mean? Are they like a vet assistant? Or is this a small 1 day course, that anyone can take and claim they are a CAS?

Thanks!

It is basically a certification in basic animal care and husbandry, it tells people you know how to care for the animal or bird.

You can be certified in feline, reptile, canine care as well. I imagine it would be usefully if you worked at a shelter or pet store.

Usually a vet assistant is either a 3 to 4 college degree. The fourth year is an education on added responsibility in office management and other expanded duties within a vet practice.
