I live in Florida...never herd of them nd dont remeber the name ever being on a vendor list at the Orlando show.

Hialeah is just outside the Miami area. Southern Florida does have good breeders but most the ones with large numbers of different species may very well be brokers. They will set up sights, close one down and set up another site under a different name. If you look at the wide range of hookbills and finches he has it is pretty big.

We had one "breeder" pop up and is on ebay classifieds in my area near Tampa, 15 minutes from me with a large selection of finches and some weird name od a zebra mutation claiming it is rare when in fact it was just a combination of two, an English and a penguin (it would be normal split to penguin or penguin split to normal...a split os a split). I have been through this area, shows and never heard of this guy. I decided to write him to see if he had Black Breast...he told me he would have some in next week....the red flag went up. Just as I suspected.

You are in Colorado...have you looked into Singing Wings Aviary or Birds Express?

Take my advice, try to order or find a breeder in your area. I am starting to see people interested in these"breeder broker sites because they are having trouble finding birds locally. I would not trust some of the ads or sites, there is a good chance you may get old birds, related ones or ill ones.

I moved this topic from the Marketplace as this thread is not selling or buying per say but rather gathering information on a seller/website. I think this is perceived as a potential resource for birds and/or supplies.

Good idea to move this type thread to Resources, Liz, as you are right, they are just asking for information.

It is a good idea for anyone to post on here inquiring about a website and/or seller they have heard about. As Cindy said, many of these open and close in short order, so little history. There are a lot of new websites for brokers out there, most will be good, but there is always a bad apple to ruin it for others.

Just a personal gripe, but I always hate it when I see errors on a website selling finches (or anything really). When someone is selling Red-cheeked Cordon Bleus, they should at least do enough research on their own product to know that they are not Cordon Bleu Orange Cheek! And it is Mannikins, not Manakins--please!! #-o Would you buy a car from someone who advertised Chevralay?!

I am starting to notice a slight trend on here...this is just my opinion...so please do not be offended. There seems to be recently a bit of a rush to order birds from across the country and sources unknown. There also seems to be a slight bird/finch shortage which may pick up again in the warmer months.

Caution needs to be taken with the sources that ship and are not well known....most of the time the brokers do not take time to make sure stock is healthy before buying and selling them to the public. You can order birds in and get them home and suddenly your own stock is sticken with issues.

Buying from from to many unknown sources to fast is and could create a health issue for your current stock. Research shows, breeders in your area first, if you ship and can ship/receive USPS try to find someone reliable in your area or close enough where the bird is not spending more than a night in a shipping container.

I am also noticing more what appers to be brokers on some of the classified websites.

Good prices, I have also been thinking of ordering, but I'm not going to. No point, I'd rather wait for a fair or mart. You get better info on the birds, and see them before hand. If I do order it will be from singwings.
