Here is a closeup of the cups. I use a hobby knife to cut off the top.

That's JUST as illegal.
Whatever!!

Don't use the Priority Boxes Martie :D
When I ordered my finches I knew nothing about PO regulations on shipping finches - I bought them, the breeder sent them by USPS, and USPS delivered them. The sender was Finch Farm and the box was a regulation bird box so that might have tipped off the USPS that there were finches in there, even if they weren't labelled (and I don't know how they were labelled because I was blissfully unaware of this issue at that pre-FF time). The local office knew they were finches and didn't indicate any problem with that when I picked them up. The USPS apparently has some flexibility in enforcing their own regulations. It's a post office reg anyway not a law. All I know is the post office was great - they called me early that morning to let me know I could come in to pick my birds up if I didn't want to wait for regular delivery later that morning. I appreciated that bit of extra consideration.

The post office makes the boxes available for free if you are going to use them to ship that way, but surely they didn't intend to just give away free boxes for everyone to take as many as they want for any purpose? They are trying to make it easy and convenient for people to ship from the post office instead of UPS store or Fedex and that is why I use them - I can take something into the post office in the bag I bought it in, put it in one of their boxes, and hand it to the clerk. They are a business that has to make payroll, and the cost of the boxes is an expense on their books. I don't know whether its actually illegal to just take their boxes but it seems wrong. I guess it especially seemed unfair to expect them throw in free delivery of the free boxes, too.

That is a great idea! I was thinking of order small drinkers to set on each cage...to fancy?

I deal with Country Feathers. They have the best price that I could find.

Another way to supply seed and water is to get small plastic cups like are used for condiments at fast-food restaurants. I found some of these at a restaurant supply store. Punch two holes in the cup, then ziptie them into each corner of the travel cage. You can fill water cups with one of those plastic ketchup dispensers sold for picnic use.

Cindy, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do about the bottom of the travel cage? I don't see a bottom to it, just the top. Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it? I have been thinking about customer transportation for my birds and I think this is the best way to go.

I set two cages in a medium or small cat pan that has a section of paper towels in the bottom, then bring a small white hand towel to cover the cage while in the show...helps to calm the birds a bit.
