Lovely birds, good luck with breeding them. You mentioned a new aviary, are there pictures in another thread?

Beautiful birds! Black-bellied Firefinches are on the list of birds I want to get and breed.

Lithium, I really like my BBs and they enjoy the lower portion of the aviary which is great because my PF and gouldian pair like it higher. I have a low feeding station and a higher one to try to cater to their needs. They are very reasonably priced and very beautiful, I would suggest you get some while they are available and try to breed them. Good luck.

I agree that the Fire finches use the bottom of the aviary a lot, so they make good companions for those species that stay higher up. And this species has not been seen much till just recently, so for those who are interested in them, this may be the time to get them. We never know when a species will stop being imported, so waiting sometimes means we miss out. Just as Blue-capped Cordon Bleus stopped being imported and have now become difficult to find, many of the African species could meet the same fate.

I hope to get a pair soon, I just need to find a breeder and figure out a cage first. Do any of you know of any good breeders? They have to be able to ship, because I don't think there's any breeders in Utah. And would a 30" x 18" x 18" be sufficient for the first little bit? I could get bigger, but I want spend as little as possible.

Www.birdproduct.com had them recently. They are in Arizona. I've not bought birds from them before but have bought finch mix ( excellent) and freeze dried insects, and the big yellow box of millet. I've heard they are ver reputable. Also Birds Express has them.
