Birds Express has Strawberry Finches!
Birds Express has Strawberry finches for $100 each, which is a very good price. You must order minimum $250, but if you can go in with another person, it would be worth it. For those in SoCal, I would think you could go to the facility and skip the shipping expense. Many people are having success with these birds, I have two friends who have three new babies each!

I bought four a few months ago and one of the two sets are sitting on eggs.

But don't you want just one pair? Frank Tromp says there are two shipments in quarantine right now, so we'll see how the prices settle out. I am just thrilled that they are continuing to bring these in! Something I never thought I'd see again.Hilary wrote: Why are you tempting me? I'm supposed to be downsizing…..

I noticed David at Paradise Earth/Bird Products has them also, same price.
I keep telling myself I have to focus on the species I most want to breed and not add any more species - but they are so beautiful, it's very tempting!

Frank Tromp, who is a breeder/broker on the west coast, says there are two shipments in quarantine right now, so many vendors should have them soon, I would think. It will be interesting to see if this affects the prices.

O.K. Sally and everyone else, I can't have any more species or finches. LOL. But, what a great opportunity! Hmmm, oh well....

My thoughts exactly! (unless there are yellow rump or white headed munias - then anything is possible)Sally wrote:I haven't heard. I'm almost afraid to ask, I can't afford any more birds!Learning Finch wrote: What else in in quarantine right now??

Any idea what changed that there are two shipments coming in? How times have changed - I remember passing up a strawberry hen once that I saw in a Petco because she had an overgrown beak, and the pair of white headed munias I had for several years I bought at Petsmart.

Re: Birds Express has Strawberry Finches!
What I've heard is that these (same as with the shipment last fall) are not wild-caught, which are still illegal to be imported into the U.S. These are supposed to have come from aviaries in Taiwan via Singapore, so captive bred. I don't ask questions.
Yes, my first Strawberry was a Petsmart rescue. They wanted $46 for her, she was almost plucked to death, and I asked if they would discount her. The manager said he could not discount her, but he could give her to me. And when I looked for a mate for her, I found 4 males at the mart for $25 or $30 each. Had I known, I would have bought all 4 of them! That was just about 7 years ago.
