New Finch Website

Hi Everyone!

I just created a new website, PetFinchFacts.com

Contributing here I realized I have a lot more knowledge than I realized!
So I created the site as a depository of sorts for my knowledge, along with recipes, how-tos and --- of course --- documenting my avian adventures. :-)

Anyways, I have a background in journalism, so I'm good with research and I'm always looking for new article ideas (though I imagine it will be a while before I run out! LOL)
I just wanted to offer to research any bird or finch topic that you had a question about but couldn't find info on or didn't have time to research yourself.

If so, just shoot me a note!

dutch - Thanks!

I admit I'm really proud of the header! (Same as the button below) *blushing*
It's my digital rendering of Molly Sue.
I design lots of graphics and website themes, but I rarely take the time to do something nice for myself! (You know the saying....the cobbler never wears nice shoes!) So I'm glad I did!
I usually wait for spare time for this sort of thing and therefore, it never gets done! LOL

I noticed that your electrolyte formula was a bit different then the one I know and is readily found online. The most common one calls for 1/8 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon baking soda, could it be a typo on yours? Might want to confirm the recipe to be sure. :)

You also have the wrong link for Laraine. Laraine's site is ladygouldian.com

And I must make my plug for good old eggs as an excellent Vitamin D source as well has many other needed nutrients.

Your site is very nice, can't wait to see how it progresses
best of luck

debbie276 -- Thanks, Debbie!

Good catch on the recipe.
That's the one I have written down, but it appears there are tons of different variations!
Of the 5 pages I looked at, 3 had 1/8 (or 1 part salt and b.soda to 4 parts sugar) instead of 1/4, so we'll go with 1/8 as it seems to be the more popular variant.

Ooh - good catch on the Lariane's site! It looks like it got combined with the post above. That'll teach me to announce a site before I've proofed it! LOL

Indeed, I'm a big egg food fan too! That's one of my upcoming posts, in fact!

And just to confuse you even more, Laraine at ladygouldian.com also gives 2 free samples with every order

I'm curious how this works,
"Use our Amazon affiliate link! 100% of commissions are donated to a non-profit bird rescue group! Just click here to Shop Bird Supplies on Amazon"

When I click on the link it takes me to a general amazon search for bird products from all different vendors, at least that's how it appears to me. :?
I'd be very interested in more information on this program.

debbie276 -- Ah, good question!

It's just through the Amazon Affiliates program.
Basically, they give me an affiliate link and ads. If you click on one of the links or ads, and make a purchase during your visit, we get a commission. I think it's 4% or 5%?

So I'm going to be donating all of the commissions to different bird rescues. There's a $100 minimum for Amazon to send out a check, so I'm thinking we'll make $100 donations to different rescues.

And if you have a particular rescue that you like, let me know! I'll be starting a list of rescues that we'll donate to. They just need to be a registered non-profit/legitimate group. :-)

I've starting using affiliate links for all my Amazon orders. (Always for others' affiliate links, as I've never had my own!)
It doesn't cost anything extra. The commission is taken from Amazon's profits.

It's a pretty clever deal!
I just added a page (Help Pet Birds) to help explain it better, as I bet others will wonder too! :-)
I also had a good idea for a social media raffle fundraiser too. I've managed campaigns for clients, but never taken the time to do it for an organization I care about! So I'm determined to make the time!

debbie276 -- Ha! I forgot that Laraine gave free samples! I'll pop that in!

Oh, and if anyone else has websites or blogs via Godaddy, they're hosting a crazy promotion through July 7.
It's $12 for an entire year of hosting (and I got a domain for free! So it literally cost me $12 to get the domain and host it for a year!)
The promo code is cjcrmn1hos.
I'm going to buy up hosting for all my other sites too! It's usually like $4 or $5 a month!

delray -- I actually use Artisteer to design the site. (http://www.artisteer.com/)

It's the BEST!
It creates themes/designs that can be exported for virtually any platform, including blogger, Wordpress, drupal, Joomla and plain html.
And there's no coding or anything like that. Super simple.

I used Wordpress as the platform. So I just installed Wordpress on the domain via Godaddy. (But I think you could also upload Artisteer-made themes on a free site from Wordpress.com or Blogger.com)

I bought Artisteer a year or two ago to create a site for a client and I've been using it ever since! It's paid for itself over and over. I think it was around $75? (And that's what I charge for a single customized site theme, so it's a great buy.)
There's a free download version so you can try it. (It just doesn't let you export the theme without a watermark unless you buy the program.) But I caution you, it's addictive!

There are also some super customizable free themes on Wordpress too.
