What was on your list?
Trollope's book is a cheap one, why was that one left out?

If you check my post of January 18th, you will see that it did arrive :D

Another book arrived yesterday...

The Zebra Finch: An Owner's Guide To A Happy Healthy Pet
By: Matthew Vriends

A very informative little book, which I would highly recommend to any Zebra owner.
There are a couple of pictures which had beem mislabled, but asside from that, an excellent little book (the best of the 3 little Zebra books that I ordered).

I also bit the bullet and ordered many books yesterday. Some on Abebooks, to be shipped here to Indonesia, the less important ones on Amazon UK to be shipped to Hungary where they can wait for me.
Some of these are likely to contain little new info for me and were just ordered to add to my collection as they were so cheap.
I marked those I do expect to find much new info in with *

Those to come here:

*Sparrows and Buntings: A Guide to the Sparrows and Buntings of North America and the World
Clive Byers; Urban Olsson

Bird Keeper's Guide to Finches
Alderton, David

A Complete Guide to Finches
Nicolai, Jurgen

The Complete Book of Finches
Vriends, Matthew M.

*Mynahs: Everything About Purchase, Acclimation, Nutrition, and Diseases (Pet Care Series)
Von Frisch, Otto

*Building an Aviary
Naether, Carl, Vriends, Matthew M.

*All About Finches and Related Seed-Eating Birds
Ian Harman; Matthew Vriends

Those to go to Hungary:

Phillip St.Blazey
The Proper Care of Finches

Frank Woolham
Aviary Birds in Colour

Matthew M. Vriends
Encyclopaedia of Softbilled Birds

Franz Robiller and 1 more
Cage and Aviary Birds

Matthew M. Vriends
Breeding Cage and Aviary Birds

Richard Mark Martin and 1 more
Cage and Aviary Birds (Collins handguides

David Alderton
The Handbook of Cage and Aviary Birds

The next thing I will need to buy now might be a new bookcase though! :-)

Added one more to come here:

Frank Woolham
The handbook of aviculture

And one more to Hungary:

Franz Robiller
Papageien 1: Hygiene, Krankheiten, Brut und Aufzucht. Papageien Australiens, Ozeaniens und Südostasiens
(a promising looking parrot book in German )

I should have enough new avicultural books to read for this whole year!

A stolen ipad....
I would have been VERY unhappy.

So did you buy any interesting birds, to compensate for the loss of you ipad? Don't know about you, but buying birds makes me happy  .

Who looks after your bird babies when you go off galavanting on bird expeditions?
That's the one draw back about living with many pets. I don't know that I would trust anyone enough to care for my furry, finned, and feathered kids, if I was away for more than a day or two.

In the meanwhile, 2 other books have arrived here.

Stroud's Digest On Diseases Of Birds
By: Robert Stroud

When I ordered this book, I hadn't realized that it was written by the actual Birdman of Alcatraz.

It was written in 1939, and is a fascinating book in many ways.

First and foremost, because it was written by a man who was considered to be a violent psycopathic murderer, who spent 54 years in solitary confinement, and yet somehow developed a profound love for birds. A self taught and highly intelligent individual, he was (against all odds) to become one of the most famous and knowledgable ornitholigist of his time, and would definitely not have been considered a slouch in our day and age either.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Stroud

I've only had the opportunity to skim through it, but the in depth information, disease recognition and treatments, are quite amazing, eventhough it was written many years ago, and before the time when so many different types of antibiotics have become as readily available as they are in our day.

I think it will be a very helpful book in the long run.

The next book to arrive, was: The T.F.H. Book Of Finches, by: Terry Dunham.
This is a nice but very skinny book (only 93 pages). It contains some good information, but regretably only about a limited amount of species. Had the author sat down, and written a 400 or 500 page book in this style, it would have been an excellent book of information, but alas it a skinny book  .

Well, I've ordered a pair of red-billed fires, auroras and orange-cheeks plus a male Lavender.
They are taking time to come though, so let's see...
I did buy 8 African silverbills by picking them up myself. Not that I need that many, but they can't be sexed by sight.

That sounds like a nice order.

The African Fires and the Orange Cheeks, are sweet peaceful little birds, of which I am rather fond.
The Auroras and the African Silverbills, I've never seen other than in pictures.
As to the Lavender boy, do you have an extra female for him?

I still have no idea, if my two are boys, girls, or one of each :?

Yes, I have a solo female Lavender.

Auroras I have long wanted.

Red-billed fires too, though the ones imported here are disappointingly dull colored.
Orange-cheeks I never liked much, but I order both them and those dull fires because it us so rare to ger any African waxbills here.

I tried accessing my original list when posting, but I guess the thread is so long now that I couldn't scroll far enough to copy/paste it. Thanks for reposting, w.l. :)

I didn't go with Trollope book because I saw that there was another version of it, and I wasn't sure which was better...would rather get some opinions first before purchase. It's on my wishlist with the 2nd list.

So far I've received the Finches & Sparrows handbook and the The New Finch Handbook. Very happy with both!

Looks likes I've got a solid FINCHforum stater-pack, haha. I would LOVE to have one of those German beauties though...drool...

You should be indeed, as those two books are the best ones of all, I'd ! :-)
Only the Hancock book comes close to these as a must buy. I'm sure you'll be happy with that one, too.

I was thinking about the "dull" African Fires.
I wonder if that can be improved with a good diet.

I know that my guys colour did improve with a diet rich in eggs, greens, and live foods. I miss my boys... :(

As to the Orange Cheeks, they are so cute and lively, I think you may find that you'll warm up to them in time :D .

I wish they were like that, but instead they are dull pink at front and dull cinnamon at the rear half. And being freshly imported, they must have become like that on an ideal diet in the wild. Perhaps the colored eggfood given to red canaries might help!
But never mind, I have my crimsons and Javan strawberry for red color.
And I don't have those African birds yet. They are still in Jakarta, waiting to be shipped when enough orders come together. Hope they won't all get sold or die before I get them!
