I hope someone can help me with this strange thing that my Canary keeps doing.
She has been sticking her tongue out for a few weeks now and then closing her mouth whilst tweeting away and generally happy.
Does anyone know why she's doing this??
She is in good health and seems very happy and bounces around all day chirping and tweeting.
I've had her for about 5 months since she was a baby and she's only started doing it the past few weeks.
She has also been nest building and has laid a couple of eggs.
Any ideas would be brilliant!!

My birds stick their tongues out and wiggle them around when they're yawning, though they have done that for their entire lives. I don't know why your canary suddenly developed that behavior.

Sometimes it’s a warning if someone is too close to them or if there is something near there nest then they do this open beak with their tongue out as a threat

Ah maybe it's a warning then?? As she is nest building at the moment so maybe that's why she's doing it. It is strange I must say!
She's also chattering a lot to herself and to the mirror.

Liz hmm I’m unsure about that with the mirror but Yh I’ve had a few birds doing this and I remember I asked because it happened a few times with my females on eggs and I was worried then someone told me this is the reason

Is it possible that the reflection she sees in the mirror of herself is the threat which causes her to do this? She might be chattering to the bird in the mirror.

Re: Canary keeps sticking her tongue out??
Might be a warning. When I first got my birds they would do that all day to me, now they are used to me and of them likes to get close, though she does not want to perch on my finger.
Have a nice day!
