Are they split of black breast?

Post by Ameza » Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:59 pm

Hi guys.

I have two normals chicks which I have been wondering if they could possibly be split for bb, since their tail feathers are all funny, compared to my last normal chick that had normal straight tail feahters.

One of them also has a very small tear mark

the other a thicker one

I guess it will show more if they are males when they molt...but what do you think? Possibility?

We haven't had any experience with the mutation, (other than our Phaeos) but based on what I've read over at efinch I would guess no. I understand what you were saying about the smaller tear drop, but it looks to me that the location is different on the BB mutation, where it appears to be closer to the beak. Also while the tail markings don't seem to be "normal" on your guys, I'm not sure that they fall under a BB split either. Just a guess on my part, but it could just be the Pied markings influencing things. Whatever the case, I am inclined to agree with adopting your 'wait and see" until after the molt to make a more positive identification.
