blue and /blue genetics simplified?

Post by Meagan83 » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:27 pm

A friend wants to know how second or even third generation "greenback" gouldians can produce blue offspring. Please simplify for newbies to genetics.

Meagan,
Here is the link to the page explaining body inheritance that may help you to understand better. http://www.finchinfo.com/genetics/lady_ ... colors.php
If the green bodied gouldian has the hidden gene for blue (split for blue) and is paired with another bird that has the blue gene (being either blue or split to blue) it can produce a blue chick if the chick inherits the blue gene from each parent bird.
