I did not know that was going on with the African species. Also, I wanted a shetland pony, when I was 9.. I am well aware how to take care of my birds. IF I create hybrids. They will not be used as breeders.

Dante, I don't believe that Kath was intending that you don't know how to take care of your birds. I believe she was just saying that things change, circumstances change, especially when your in your teens and 20's... usually at 17 is when the biggest changes start happening. I am only 24 so I can't vouche for the rest of the 20's lol. But what I'm getting at is the fact that since things do and will change you have to be prepared for the responsibility of your birds. Whether that is adapting and changing your schedule to make sure your birds are still getting the best care or whether you find someone else to look after your birds. Take for example later on in life you get a girlfriend and are spending a lot of time with her. Most pets become nuisances to teens at that time. Think further down the road.. your 18 and want to go to College or University, whats going to happen to your birds? I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old and 25 birds. It gets hard at times for me to get everything done that I need to when it comes to caring for my birds but they are my responsibility and they depend on me. I guess to put it blatantly you really have to think of the consequences of your actions. In my case the consequence is that I have to get up at 5 every morning to make sure my birds are all well and cared for before my kids are up. In your situation you really have to think about your future and what will happen to your birds given a certain situation. Birds stick around for years. Some birds will even out live us.

The only thing that bothered me was seeing if they would live. Thats all :D. I have no issues with dante at all. Now back to the bccb's. I cant find anyone with any bccb hens. I'm trying not to have one shipped but by the way it looks I may have no choice.....LOL. There seems to be a few bird shows near me so I will have to take a day off of work to go have a look. I can tell you though that my bccb male is trying to court my lone gouldian hen but she isnt having it.....LOL !

I believe that Dante's age has answered alot of questions in my mind. I am raising a 14 year old. (no offense to you at all Dante) Sometimes their "ideas" are certainly not like ours being older and more mature.

In saying that..... the gouldian males in my aviary will court any bird close by. And I have a bccb male and he is constantly building a nest for "someone" and there is no mate for him. I need to find him one as he is a GREAT father and fertile egg producer.

I doubt they would ever try to breed. They are just flirting.
Get them each a mate!!!

Cath, I didn't think you were saying I can't for them! No offense taken. Also, no comment on the age. -___-

I ended up getting a younger ( still in juvie molt ) gouldian male for my lone hen and he is already courting her.....LOL. He does his little song even tho it isnt quite as developed as my older male and I did catch him doing his head shake and up and down hop dance......LOL So now I am on my quest to find a bccb hen and it will complete my collection for now.... :D
