zebra genetics question!
Hi there, I am really wanting to breed some pied blackcheek zebras. I was wondering if any of you could tell me what to pair up? I am picking up a pied crested 1/2 blackcheek thursday(shows blackcheeks so far), and a blackcheek hen. Also....does anyone know what I would get if i paired the pied blackcheek to a white hen....i know the males from her clutch have cream cheeks.... I just like playing around for unusual funky colored birds!! I also last night picked up a really adorable grey pied hen...who may also have some blackcheek in her. She was bred in a large community with blackcheek males in there also...she appears to me to have a little more black feathering from her tears...not a distinct tear. I will post some pics later!! also is it possible that if the white was bred with blackcheek....could get light birds with dark cheeks? any help is appreciated....i also have isabel hen and fawn pied hen....any suggestions?

Re: zebra genetics question!
With pied you are essentially removing all color. Your female could be all white pied or just a white both are recessive.
BC pied male and white female
100% Normal/White Black cheeked Pied
or if she is all white pied with a BC pied
100% Pied /White Black cheeked
again if you bred a white to a black cheek (recessive) and depending if she is split to pied, most likely the cheeks will come in as anything from wide tear, none at all or light gray....hard to say since it is unclear if she is a pure white or a pied white. Pied is stubborn and it will eventually remove the black nd color in a bird.
you would end up with splits
100% Normal/White Black cheeked pied
if she is a pure white (recessive)
100% Normal/White Black cheeked gray bird with black cheeks or wide tears
In order to get a white bird with black cheeks you would need a CFW to pair with a BC...the orange would be replced by the Black....this is a BC CFW

Re: zebra genetics question!
With the Isabel hen you can mate her with a normal gray to produce Florida Silvers and Florida Fancies.
With you pied fawn female, pied is recessive and fawn is sexed linked....if you pair her to a normal you will only get males split to fawn, no visuals. The males carry the gene only. If you want more fawns you will need a fawn or a NG/fawn male to produce visual fawn offspring. Fawn females are only visual, it is like pairing a gray, they only give visual gray females when paired to a gray not split to fawn male and she will give you gray males split to fawn.
So if you pair her with a pied BC only the males will be split to fawn, no visuals.
example...BC pied x female fawn pied
50% Pied /Black cheeked Fawn Males
50% Pied /Black cheeked Females
