Post by tinysparrow » Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:16 am

Hey there,
I got a new zeebie yesterday. Can anyone help me to identify the mutation? I hope the pics are ok, if not I can post more :) He is a quick little guy, doesn't want to stay still!

thanks!

Looks to be either a FF or CFW male. The lighting is a bit harsh, turn off the flash and light from the side. It appears to have no tear, but it has a faint breast bar could be split to BB. Look at the tail, is there a white pattern in the tail that looks like an hourglass...not all splits carry this. Can you get a clear shot of the front chest area? Are there any tear marks?

http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewZebra/blackbreast.html scroll down to the word "feathers" in blue and it will show you what to look for.

For future reference efinch.com and Garrie Landry.. http://www.zebrafinch.com/NewZebra/Zebra.html

are good places to go for visuals and descriptions!! I use these all the time.

hi cindy,
thanks for your reply. i was looking at the efinch photos last night and i thought he looked like a Florida Fancy. He has a bit of grey on the top of his head. Here are some more photos of him. I moved him to a different room to get better light!

It looks like a CCFW (Continental CFW) based on the gray on the top of the head and black bars on the tail and breast bar all of which are lacking in FF....It is still young and not fully colored out since the black flecking is still on the top of the head.

Give it another few months and a good molt and you will see more of the adult colors, some are slow to color up.

look at the tail comparison.
