zebra penguins

Post by beton562 » Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:08 pm

Does anyone know if penguin females can sometimes show the black tear mark? From wat I know they don't, but I have a female that looks like a penguin but she shows the black tear drops. Any suggestions?

I raise them and have a small colony of them...can you post a picture? Penguin females normally do not have tears, she may be split to something else.

Is she young? What are her parents? They do fledge looking like normals some with tears that fade as they molt. If she is mature than she may not be a full penguin.

Hi Cindy.
Im having a hard time uploading pictures from my cell phone, its keeps sayin that the file is too big :( how do you upload urs?
She is already over a year old and when I.bought her I got her wit her mate which is a full penguin no doubt about it. But she looks just like the one in the picture you posted just that she has tear marks. She is currently sitting on 4 eggs so if I get 100 percent penguins I know she is full.
I noticed it bc today I.picked up another penguin hen but I noticed she didn't have the tear marks. But I guess we will just have to wait and see

Full penguins do not have tears. When penguins are bred to normals, females that are born looking normal but split are gray with a tear. The gray male offspring look normal but split.

She could be a pied. If you breed a pied to a penguin you will remove all orange in the cheek and flanks of your male penguin offspring.

You can breed normals to penguins you will get normals split to penguins and some penguins.

You can email your picture to yourself and down size it to a picture program like paint or photobucket.

The tail and full body picture will help in ID'ing the bird....
