Is there any reason not to breed two yellow gouldans together?? like any lethal factors or anything???

I don't see why there would be any problem with breeding two yellow head. They are a naturally occurring sub-species here in Australia, and personally I believe you should only breed the same head colours together to keep them pure. I only breed black heads with black heads.

Sorry I need to correct that - the yellow, red and black are 3 naturally occurring colour variations in Australia, not sub-species.

i think she meant yellow backed gouldians. i've heard mixed things. some say it's ok, and some say don't ever do it

yes back color....It came up by a club member they read in a book not to breed two yellows, and I just had never heard that so I thought I would run it by everyone.

They use to say 2 yellows with white breast.. but I believe that was way back when white breast was a new mutation... wasn't a big gene pool to bred WB YB to WB YB... Now so many gouldians lines in this country I have bred yellows of all color breast and heads without any propblems.
I never breed the recessive colors to each other for several generations. I always will cross the recessive mutation back to a normal to insure a healthy and good size bird. Then proceed with the splots. The breeders I have seen that breed the recessive to each other indefinately have very small birds...and tiny heads... This may be what that breeder was referring to?
