Katie...OB splits show like this
In Males :
1- Thin Tear Mark.
2- Traces of Orange in The Beast Bar, Throat, Tail & inner Side of Wings.
In Hens :
1- Thin Tear Mark.
2- Traces of Orange in the Tail and Cheek Patch.
3- Traces of Light Grey Spots in The Flank Area
It does not show on the wing feather edges....your birds look split to fawn, what you are seeing are the tones of browns in the feathers.

I can try to explain how much my camera sucks again..but it would be no use. The camera makes close up pictures of orange look brownish. Nevermind i guess, but how would you explain Gus's orange in her cheeks?

Kaite, you do thos alot. We tell you what they are every time. Lux is normal. You can tell he is normal. All of them are except for maybe Lolita's split BB. Lux shows no sign in any picture. Your Gus may have some flecks but that is just a quirk. I do not mean to sound harsh but I am speaking for more than myself here.

Re: Mutation excitement again
Katie...this is my Isabel OB/BB
The cheek is colored orange. The lacing or scalloping of orange is split to BB or FF. The orange in tail is OB.

I thought you found a BB feather in one of your birds

Re: Mutation excitement again
I did, remember? Lolita has one or two more of the bb tail feathers. But would that contribute the orange in Gus?

The colors that you may be seeing is the tones of browns in the feathers the way the light hits it. The only way to definately tell if split to OB or BB is breed them with full or splits to those mutations.

Re: Mutation excitement again
birds from me that are split eather bb or ob
or full OB and BB

Vargs -undan Vargs Svartskegg og Vargs Gefjun by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
OB fawn

Vargs - Undan Vargs Svartskegg og Vargs Gefjun - BB fawn by Elma_Ben, on Flickr

Vargs Eros Apollonsson by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
split ob and bb

Vargs - Ungfuglar by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
the bird to the right is fawn BB.
you can see the obvious orange lacings.

Vargs - Isabel kvk til vinstri og Fawn Split BB kk til hægri by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
and split fawn male

Vargs - Zebra finch baby - fledgling by Elma_Ben, on Flickr
you can see he has brownis color on his back.
this male was paired with fawn pied female.
thats why I got fawn ofspring.
you were wondering why all your chicks were normal grey, not fawn.
and you think Lux is split fawn.
I think he have to be full fawn to get fawn female ofsprings by himself.
If you pair a split fawn male with fawn female you will get fawn boys and girls.
traces of brown in wings is no proof that a bird is split fawn,
many normal greys show it.
you will have to pair him with another female to see if he is split for something.
