Silver or fawn isabels?

Post by minori » Sun May 27, 2012 9:16 am

Having some trouble identifying my 2 youngest Isabels. They're not obviously fawn like their older brother (below), but they're not really "silver" in color either.

Rebecca, Identify which one of your males is split fawn, and pair him with your isabel hens, you will get beautiful chicks again! i think they are silver fawn isabels, a combo of both.

REBECCA!!!!!!!!! I see a faint "eyebrow" over the first male.... get me a tail bar shot please, it signs for a split to black breast

Dante, i was about to say the same thing, he has orange lacing in his wings AND the eyebrow, but those tailfeathers don't look BB hmm...
Well what i learned, one of my chicks is split to BB but she did not get ONE hourglass feather til her second molt!
this is what you should look for in the future when he either molts or his feathers come in all the way:
the bottom right and bottom middle are both feathers that show a split to Black Breasted. Lolita, the mother, is the carrier

As for the brothers in questions, they look like fawn isabels to me but i am still new to the isabel mutation so i will let Dante and Cindy take this one :)
Very beautiful zebbies!

Well, Vargur said it is fawn isabels as well!! i think we have a winning mutation! Congrats!
BTW if they are /BB like thought, the tails will come in hourglassed like my girls, even that tiny little strip of white between the two white stripes counts as hourglass

Hmm, no /BB feathers, but he sure has sings of /BB. Maybe it will pop up further down the line FF/Isabels are often mixed with BB and OB

Some BB split hide it well. My Isabels that are split OB BB often look just Isabel. Some show split signs for OB or Orange on the cheeks and orange lacing on the wings. Some show bits of black in the cheek. I have yet to see a hourglass shape feather in any of my Isabel females or FF males split to BB.

I actually would think that they are grey isabel. But the wings are rather fawn though. He just really reminds me of my grey isabel male.

But in my experience, isabels tend to be a bit like fawns, the exact colour can vary between birds.

Here is my grey isabel male

Image

At least I have always labelled mine as grey isabel.
Here is an old comparison while he was still molting.
