My grey pair thowing off BC

Post by love4finches » Sun Jan 13, 2013 6:53 pm

I have a pair of greys that threw off one BCCFW hen and a BC male. I would have bet the farm that I would get greys in the mix. This was the first clutch. This pair don't seem to be able to keep alive all their babies but are very good parents. I got this pair at an adoption party a gal was having. I am wondering if they are related like bro and sis.

Anyway, they had 5 babies and only 3 left. Threw out 2 dead and a third is so small I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't make it. Two are doing beautifully but they threw off all 5 babies BC. So strange. Yes, they are definately greys split to BC on both sides and dad is also split to CFW.

Strange pair but my favs. Just looking for opinions/observations from anyone who is really up on and understands CFW varieties. I've got a mental block with this pair. Don't know why. I'm confused why they aren't thowing off greys. You would think that would be most of the babies but BC seem to be really dominant in babies.

Just a thought. I know the male is definately a grey (red cheeks) but the female upon further looking at color may be a BC. If so, that changes the baby ratio of BC to grey. I need to upload pics but hate taking pics. Will do it soon but in the meantime if anyone has any opinions would love to hear them. Thanks. Lyn
