What would these colors be called for a society finch?

Post by katlovesaandw » Mon Feb 17, 2014 12:42 pm

Ok, when I went to buy the chocolate crested male yesterday...the gal asked me what other colors do I have.
Thankfully, I have picked up a bit and didn't look like a total idiot.
But... for future reference... what would I call these.

Mom, is a chocolate but I think would be considered a chocolate dilute as she has only a dark chocolate mask and on her back. Rest is white.

Dad, is a fawn and white... about 50/50 and the fawn is more on his back and then splotches. So what would he be called?
His daughter is the same but with more white. She is about 65% white and 35% fawn.

Older son, is a straight chocolate. He looks like the pics of a chocolate with maybe a bit more white on his lower tummy.

Last son is solid white.

I can try to get pics but these guys HATE the camera.... I can try to attach photo from CL ad.

The mother is chocolate marked white. Dilute would be a reduction of color. If the bird is white as this one is, it is marked white.

The father is fawn pied - and looks heavily fawn pied (lots of white).

The first clutch male is chocolate pied.

The second clutch is hard to see - there's some glare in the photo - but might be either fawn pied or fawn marked white - or if all white, would be referred to as either dark-eyed white - or red-eyed white as the case may be.

Very pretty- all of them! :)

2nd clutch, has 1 all white and he does have dark eyes....so dark eyed white. And other 1(we feel female) is like Dad but with more white and less fawn, so she would be very heavily pied then.

Yeah! Now I know!
It was more of knowing what colorations I have when/if someone asks. Don't really care for breeding purposes as that is not important to me but if someone asks.... rather than just say ummmmm, societies....LOL I know what I am talking about!! HEHE

And I know photo is not good. That was the one in ad, I saved it so I could remember who was who for the 1st day or so.
I tried to get pics of them last week and they thought I was stealing their souls or something.....LOL

THANKS Martie!
I tried to study the links provided in another post and learned some but not exactly what I had!

Glad to help. After trying for photos of your own, I bet you appreciate all the photos from others even more. It is HARD to get good photos of your birds - and even the best photographers take many, many bad shots just to get one good one. Thank heavens for digital photography!
