WHAT MORPH IS MY GOULDIAN??

Post by GouldianGirl » Wed Sep 03, 2014 3:48 pm

Sorry i dont have any pics...but can anyone tell me what i have. Hes a new flock member for me. Hes a red face greenback purple chest, but instead of his face being outlined in black, its light grey. Hes a male for sure, and looks like a typical red face...but the grey ring throws me off. Any ideas?

Sounds like a dilute, single factor yellow body.

I dont think so though...I have bred dilutes. I have yellow finches. This guy is totally deep greenback. The closest thing I could find on the sites is some type of pastel???

GouldianGirl

Agree with Debbie it is SF Pastel. We have 2 of those and 1 looks yellowish-green and the other is almost completely green. The grey ring signifies that they are carrying a YB gene.

Awesome! Thanks for the replies. So what is pastel best to be bred with? What colours will he produce? And what is the difference between single and double factor? Thats something I dont quite understand. Thanks again everybody!!!! :D

It all depends on what color chicks your looking to get.

SF means they only carry one gene for that mutation and DF mean they carry 2. For a male gouldian to be visually yellow it needs to have 2 Pastel genes otherwise it is visually somewhere between green and yellow. Unless of course it also has a White Breast, then it will appear visually yellow even being SF.
Good places to learn the genetics are here:

good luck

Aren't Pastel, SF Yellow, and Dilute all the same thing?
