Thanks for that link, Debbie. It is good to see that people are working to bring that red fusion line back. Makes you wonder why breeders worked to get rid of it in the first place, or maybe they weren't working for that, it just happened with their bloodlines. But it is clear from the NFSS Gouldian standards that it is desirable.

"Wing coverts should be of dark grass-green with a slight glossiness. The primaries should be dark gray, almost black, with a lighter edging to the flight feathers. The deep violet breast should extend from the royal blue throat band to a line running across the chest at the level of the lesser wing converts. This line should be clear cut and have a reddish tinge. Below this line and running over the abdomen and flanks, the colors should be deep buttercup yellow gradually fading to white in the area of the vent. The back should have a blue band, which merges on the head with the grass-green of the mantle and back. The area should carry a gold suffusion, more intense on the mantle and approaching the rump. The rump should be royal blue. The undertail coverts should be clear white, while the uppertail coverts will be light sky blue. Some white frosting of the feather edges is acceptable. The tail will be black."

From NFSS show standards for Gouldians.

I find it sad that people work so hard to change what nature created. Going through all the trouble they go to to washout the colors of the normals. Can you tell I'm partial to the normal coloring??

Me too! My absolute favorite Gouldian is RH, GB, PB. Those gaudy colors splashed all over its body are what first attracted me to Gouldians. I realize that it is the challenge, but I just don't get a silver Gouldian--to me it looks like it has been dipped in bleach! A silver Gouldian in the wild would not be able to reproduce, because all the other Gouldians would say 'Yuck!".

Sally, I agree with you. I am the proud owner of a silver male and I can appreciate his subtle colours but like you this isnt what attracted me to them in the first place. I'm becoming a purist ha ha! Not a fan of the dilutes either :)
