But I don't see any orange headed offspring here. Hmmm I still say there's a sneaky fella hiding in the "wings" somewhere!

There are two orange headed offspring that are molting up.
Do you really think that the genetic forecaster is always correct?
Just curious......
It's more correct and specific than anything I could come up with myself. I'm rather dense when it comes to trying to think about finch genetics. I rely on the GF quite heavily and it hasn't failed me yet but I guess it might not be 100% accurate. I just haven't found any misses in it yet.

Perhaps you could send your photos and an explaining email to Carlos and see what he thinks. Then again he may already be bombarded with emails like that... saying: Hey I think your forcaster messed up.

Three things since I'm trying to read through this quickly.

1: Your hen must be BH/OH and must be Purple/White Breast. As well, the father must be /White since you produced White Breasted birds.
2: An easy way to distinguish between RH and OH birds is to look at the color of the beak. It's easy to see the RH hen is RH because her beak is red tipped, not orange.
3. Are you SURE the father is Yellow? Perhaps he is just a really light Dilute. Do you have a photo of him? I would suggest first that he is a lighter Dilute than he is Lilac Breast, because this would mean you should have gotten some Lilac Breast babies - and all I see are purple and white :)

Hard to tell with this dim lighting but he actually DOES look like he could be Lilac Breast - which means he would be Lilac/White!

Thanks.... he is one of my favorites and an absolute marvelous dad.

He has had three clutches for me..... never tossed a baby and won't even move when I try to "Peek".

Again, I lucked up when I bought him. I got him at a bird mart about a year ago. I was browsing around just looking and saw him in a cage singing away. Was adorable. I had never bought before from these breeders and probably never will again because they are not truthful with you about birds. (I know this because I almost bought a pair of diamond firetails from them and they assured me they were peaceful birds) I love those birds and wanted a pair so badly, but was not familiar with them.

They also told me this bird was split to blue.... ( who knows?) Maybe that was so, but I am only taking their word.

Nevertheless, he is a joy!!!!

Oh yeah.. Firetails are really aggressive I hear, that stinks!
At least you got this darling male though!

Funny - I have a Lilac/White DF Yellow/Blue male and he is the same! He is very broody, I have to physically pick him up off the nest to check fertility of eggs!
I love him :)
