Mellow Yellow

Post by CandoAviary » Thu Aug 27, 2009 11:26 pm

I have several clutches of of yellow chicks this year....
The first is a really soft cream and subdued yellow
Chick on far right

Next is my weird chick that had red eyes for the longest time
It is on the left
And a yellow chick that I am use to seeing. The one on the right

Below....Here the normal looking one is on the left and my weirdo is on the right

Why so many shades of yellow? Why is it that weirdo is so dark on the back and so light on the front?

Had red eyes? But doesn't anymore? Any chance you got your hands on a lutino?

No, the eyes are definately dark, brown or black...depending on the light. If it were a lutino or having any albinistic genes it would still have red eyes. I have just been waiting to see the yellow feathers come in and it sprouts these dingy things. Notice the tail feather are dark ...all my yellows before had white or yellow tail feathers. Maybe it is going to turn into a dilute.

The baby on the left is the hand fed one?

Either way, I would bet money the baby on the left is male, and the baby on the right is a hen :)

Yes, the baby on the left is the handfed one. Have not seen any try to sing yet, still too young but my intuition tells me the same....
Left male, Right hen :D
I have a clutch of 3 from the same parents and one is light with the red eyes again....they are 11 days old. Were tossed and the societies are feeding. Hen immediately had laid an egg before I removed the nest so I will give this pair one more shot at raising thier own clutch. Hope they have it figured out by now.... The neighbor cage has babies and every time those babies beg the male gets really excited so hopefully he will feed not toss :D
