I was wondering...My OH, WB, GB male has a slightly larger than normal blue ring around his mask and has more blue on the upper part of his tail, than my other normal.
When I bought him I was TOLD that he was a split to blue, but I took that with a grain of salt. Do splits show like that??? I thought that splits were completely hidden traits.
Now I am wondering if I should break up his happy home to match him with a blue hen.
thanks all
Is it possible to tell a blue SPLIT GB gould?

There is no way to visibly tell a 'split' Gouldian from a non-split Gouldian.

I have noticed in my normal backs that the blue ring and tail feathers vary greatly. No indicator that they are split though.

Some claim that those with excellent colour vision can spot a subtle difference between splits and non-splits. See the entry under 'Blue' here: http://finchstuff.com/GouldianFinchColourMutations.aspx
Don't know if it's true or not.

I guess the only way to be sure is find him a blue hen.
Worse case scenario is I'll end up with splits. They will come in handy.

I don't know if it's coincidence but I have a normal green baby who is split to blue and he seems to have a lot of blue feathers. Since it's my first babies I can only go by what I'm seeing on this one baby. His head feathers especially seem bluish, the sibling is a genetic blue. The father is a Pastel blue. Here is a pic of my split to blue baby.

renee, I would be curious to see how (s)he colors out.
Well, I got a blue female and went ahead and paired them up. I'll have to just find out the old fashioned way.
Unfortunately he is calling and can sometimes hear his previous mate so it may take awhile before he is interested!
