I purchased this Cock last fall at a Bird Mart here in San Antonio, TX. The breeder who sold him to me said he was called a silver or pastel.
I want to know and also need to know exactly how to enter him into the Genetics Forcaster as I want to know the outcome of matings. Not sure what would be the best hen to pair him with for next year. We currently have him with a RH WB YB hen and they have 3 fledgelings in the cage, of which one might turn out like the Cock. One is light yellow with whte chest and head. The third is dark grayish color with a little color tinted on back and wings when light hits it.
The photo shows a little more color than he actually has. His back, wings and chest are fairly much off white/cream color. The back of the neck is actually a very light powder blue and his head is a very light straw color of which I assume is RH.
Other hens I have that I could breed him with next season are: RH PB GB or YH WB GB.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Judy

Re: Gouldian Cock- Silver or ???
Hi Judy,
He looks like a single factor blue. A pastel is specific to the purple breasted birds and is visually blue.
Assuming he is RH, with the hen you have now they could have, Yb and SFYb males and Yb and Gb hens. All chicks will be RH.WB and split to Blue.
With the RH.PB.Gb hen you could get, SFYb (aka dilute) and Gb males and Yb and Gb hens. All chicks would have RH.PB/WB and split to Blue.
With the YH.WB.Gb hen you could get, SFYb and Gb males and Yb and Gb hens. All chicks will be RH/YH.WB and split to Blue.
Best of luck

Re: Gouldian Cock- Silver or ???
Sorry I posted a SFBlue rather then SFYellowBlue in my post, brain was still sleeping. He looks like a single factor blue.

Because of the blue around his head I believe he is a Single Factor YellowBlue and not Double Factor YellowBlue which would be a "silver". Because of his White Breast he is visually white rather then Blue AKA "pastel"

Re: Gouldian Cock- Silver or ???
Thank you Debbie and L in Ontario. So, just out of curiousity, how would I enter him into the Genetic forcaster? I know he would have RH & WB. What color do I enter for back ...yellow split to blue? Thanks and "L", yes he does look exactly like your Casper. Funny tho, I have a sweet cat named 'Casper'. lol

Re: Gouldian Cock- Silver or ???
For the Genetic Forecaster - Body: click on Single Factor Yellow and also click on Blue as this is a Yellow and Blue Gouldian.
Let us know if that doesn't work but it should.
