The amazing thing is  this birds comes from no perhaps seagreen pairing. The father is a split Lutino cock, therefore he is perhaps split too. He is a RH one. I will post pics when he starts molting.

some more to see the lighter belly and the gentle "violet" touch on the back... :)

The white breast one...you can compare with the other belly's male. His red tip beak and his head are lighter too.

No this is the boy from post 143!?
Yes I know SF pastels do differ much from a very dark green to a yellowgreen. But this boy seems to get a very light greenyellow back.
The color of the belly will become as I see normal yellow.

I really enjoy looking at everyone's photos. How long did it take you all to aquire the Gouldians you wanted to use as breeding stock and then to decide what you wanted to breed for? I wish I could see everyone's birds in person! They're all so beautiful and different.

It takes long, [-o< long time to choose and get the right birds...choosing the colors, morphs, size and be able to have couples who please themselves :?
I bought my special VDM1a in november 2008...the first one with the bluish back... and the cock I had at that time was the brother of a "winner" of the Montreal Birds Show of 2007(Pascale Harvey was the breeder of this cock)...He is a great father (RH/BH PB/WB GB/BB? Dark factor) so I've matched them and I've got my first really nice gouldians at that time...april 2009...(VDM1b cock, VDM2b cock & VDM3b hen). With those three who are probably Dark factor, I tried different partners...

VDM1a hen and VDM1b cock(her son... with one leg) were put together and they got "Opaline cock" and a beautiful BH PB BB hen.
Then Opaline cock was breed with VDM3b hen and I got the two last lady on the pictures... I know inbreeding can conduct to some issue so I will mix new blood with my little pool... :|

VDM3b hen had four young with a beautiful OH Imperfect WB GB/BB, one RH/OH LB BB(cobalt) cock, one RH/OH LB SeagreenB cock, one RH/OH WB SeagreenB cockand one hen sold as immature :?

VDM1a had other partners too... an OH WB DYF GB cock who died when breeding... They had five young together...

As you can see, all these birds was reese in relatively long period of time (not much young and with some lost too). So it's a long journey and when something goes wrong with my birds, I'm quite disappointed...! A lot a patience but a lot of gratifications too!!!

Thanks so much for the explanation Isa. It's interesting to me how people decide what to breed for and how they find the birds to use. You don't breed just to sell- You breed to enhance your stock in the direction you want it to go. Do you sell the ones you don't want to use as breeders ? How many Gouldians do you work with? When I hybridized my own daylilies it was kind of like breeding Gouldians. It took two - three years from pollinating, gathering seeds, planting, and growing to seeing the flowers bloom. Then you have to decide which ones to keep and which ones to give away. It takes patience. The photos you posted are great! Beautiful Gouldians!

Thanks all for your nice comments!!! :D

I have currently between 30 and 40 gouldians... about 10 in juvenile feather and the other ones are adults... some that I keep to breed and some that I sell when my mind is set about the features I don't want to keep...(but always difficult to let go... )
I have a "crush" for gouldians with a lot of blue(on back, breast, sea green...) but with red head  so when of of them seems to emerge from a clutch, I keep it for breeding program... I don't breed many couple at the same time... not much than four(probably two) couples in separate breeding cage(four is really a maximum because of lack of space and time...with more breeding, my life would be really crazy with two child, my husband and a full-time job at the hospital+teaching at the university plus other passions like reef keeping, skiing, painting,... )
So my goal is not to sell, I breed only to see the most colorful gouldians as possible 8). I watch permanently for gouldians on the net or in local stores and when my eye is pleased by a special one, he rapidly becomes a new member of the crew!!! (my husband don't know that! as he doesn't know the final count of member of the "crew", recognize or see the difference between any of my birds!!!
Gouldians are for me a way to be in "dream space" and really efficient way to put problems away! 8)
