Horrible news!
How upsetting to loose them to weather!

hi misty
thanks, glad you enjoyed the read. i think within the next month i may have/will have problems in the colony.
last year i only reared to adulthood 9 birds from 10 pair of first year parents.
this year it appears to be totally the opposite. at the moment i already have 10 young flying and another 8 in total in three different nest boxes and another 5 pair setting on eggs. all these in the mutation avairy.
the only way out of it is to relocate the stars and painted to another area and rebuilt the avairy for gouldians before winter sets in.
i own a jumping castle business and last saturday we did a delivery about 15klm from the city. i was driving along a dirt road and passed through a creek crossing and spooked a flock of approx 10 diamond sparrows or diamond firetails.
now that freedom and beats being housed in an avairy anyday. was a great site to see.
regards

just visited the aviary and i have a young blue out of the nest today. overall there were 5 young in the nest - the other 4 are possible splits as the parents were both split for blue.

Super colourful aviaries for sure. Been reading with interest as I too only really have resources to colony breed.

Nice pics. What size are your nest boxes? Are they all the same?

What is standard in your corner of the world may not be standard to us. Would they be 5"x5" or 8"x8"? Bigger? Just curious as you are having such success.
