Wow, she is gorgeous! Please keep us updated (with pics). I'd especially be interested to hear if the blue stays when she moults into her adult colours in a few months.

I am becoming rather partial to her blue. We will see what happens when she finishes coloring. I must admit, I'm curious what will happen when she molts again, but from what some people on NFSS say, most of these blue breasted birds molt out purple with the next molt.

I will be selling the offspring from this clutch, so I will have to keep track of her to see what happens.

Unfortunately, I'm in Thousand Oaks, California.

I won't ship, but if people are willing to come out here, I'm more than willing to sell to them. I do prefer to wait until the juvenile molt is almost complete, to keep the stress on the chicks lower, and so I know exactly what the chicks look like for record keeping. This clutch should finish molting in a few months, and the 4 younger siblings should fledge in two weeks.

After the second clutch is completely weaned the pair will be seperated to keep them from laying a third clutch this year. Not that I don't like chicklets, it is for the health of both birds.

With any luck in the next few months my BH/PB/GB hen and single factor yellow OH/PB male will mate and we will have some chicks from them as well. He is currently finishing his molt so it may be a few months.

I agree with it being too far, but I have to make sure the offer is out there!! I will be keeping the photos updated as all the chicks color up, they are identified by the last two digits on their leg bands. The chick that is coloring up blue/purple is chick 65. Her siblings are 61-64 respectively.

Clutch 2 is 66-69. We will see what they look like in the months to come. :)

It is about a 3 hour drive to Palm Desert, but not too far. I'm about a 30-45 minute drive from Hollywood.

And yes, we did have a doozy of an earthquake a week ago!!

Hope all is well!! I was there when the Hector Mine quake hit one morning. It was like a 7.1 - 7.2.

christie99 wrote:Hello Everyone.

I've been searching all over the internet to find out information on a blue breast. I have a 2 1/2 month old chick that started coloring out a purple breast (3-4 feathers) and then started growing in a saphire blue breast. The parents are both RH/PB/GB birds. I have a few photos of her about a week ago, the blue is now coming in above the purple.

I can see that most don't know much about this modification, but if you run across something, I'd be really interested to hear about it!! I'll post photos if people are interested.
There is an adult finch with a breast like yours here.
