Just curious, if you live in the US and wanted to carry a bird back to home with you from another country, what is involved? Has anyone here ever done this? I assume bird sellers/companies have some kind of import license, but I'm asking about individual finchaholics.

Kathmcm, some countries restrict what you can bring back in...best to check with US customs to find out what is involved. I know Miami has a quarantine facility for imported birds, snakes and animals.

You can call Logan Airport and ask if you can talk to someone about bringing finches into the state and what is involved.

I am not sure what the policies are for the US but in Canada if you want to import any kind of animal you need to have the animal vaccinated and health checked by a vet in the country it is coming from and a written certificate signed by the vet saying that the animal is healthy and fit to leave the country. Then once at the border the animal has to go through a quarantine period and be checked again by another vet in your country to make sure that it isn't sick. All that along with a whole bunch of paperwork that needs to be signed from you and the person that you bought the animal from and import/export fees paid by you and your done. Some animals are restricted so you have to check before you try. Its a long and expensive process.
