Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
well I thought the 5 eggs she is on now were infertile. I wasn't able to reach all five eggs to candle, so I left them all just in case. This morning there was a baby! I know atleast 3 of the eggs are infertile...i hope they care for the little loner.
Also...my first owl hatched this morning!!!! I'll post about this in a different thread.

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Oshtay...the last picture looks to be a hen. I did notice on one picture that the silver bird had a faint breast bar (Silver boy 3), bear in mind that offten female black cheek have breat bars. You have BC introduced in the blood line so it may display the breast bar.
None of the silvers appear to have any signs of visable cheeks, flanking, these all may be females. As far as cheeks (picture silver boy 2) what you are seeing is the cheek marking faint, but it is due to the BC factor....looks like your male passed it onto the daughters. Female BC have cheek patches. Also there is no visable flanking which is typical of males.....pretty sure the silvers are hens.

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Cindy, thats where my confusion comes in. The last two pics are the same finch...the male. I wouldn't be sure but he sings constantly

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Oshty, they molted only once? You have me puzzled???? LOL!!
Pm Vargur and ask her to look.....tell her it sings. I have had females call and squeak...is this a full male song?
If it is is, quiet possibly the mutation combination wiped out the flanking and cheek or they are there but so well blended in with the body color. Or they could appear after a molt....
Your little bird wins the prize for stumping us!!!

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
haha...it is a full male song. I may be able to get a video. I have to admit....I'm not positive about the molting. As far as I know there has only been one molt. He very well be starting another right now. What is the normal time frame for young molting? When do they typically have their second molt?

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
I believe it is right about 3 months. I had no idea mine had an orange breast until the second molt. I think what we are dealing with is a male that looks female now...if the cheeks, flanks do not come in than it is the mutations of his genetic make up that removed those colors...go to the site I gave you, put in lB BB and isabel....it turns it to a very light silver with hardly any cheek and flanking and breast bar. It might be that those markings are so faint it blends into the body color.
Pretty neat!!!

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Dante...even considering the mutation combination some females that are BC or splits can show tiny breast bars....this apparently is a male that has had some mutation combiations that has changed the typical look of a male!!!! Very Unique!!!!

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Go to that site and try the combo I listed above, the LB BC Isabel under designer and see how light silver the bird gets. I have silver Isabel that have ters almost the same color as their body that fade into the color and it is at first glance hard to see.
Oshtay, will you keep this bird?

Re: Update on baby zebs colors...
Cindy, I plan on holding on to this guy and his sister. Taya (the female) has already attached herself to a CFW male "merlin" who is only about a month older. He is the only CFW offspring I kept from my cfw's last clutch. What would you recommend I pair this male with?
I'm eager to see what this new baby will be.... Bo and Bonnie are feeding well so far
