Re: Gouldian babies
@ Martie: my first Gouldian pair had 10 eggs in the nest & hatched one healthy "chubby" baby. I named him Butterball. He was like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Re: Gouldian babies
Tiffany has brought up a good point, I guess when they color out, you will know for sure. When I had Gouldians, two hens used the same nestbox, shared incubation, and shared feeding. Dolly, I love the name Butterball!

Re: Gouldian babies
Yes Tiffany they are colony bred. Of course it is possible that could have happened. This pair are bonded together and Trish's two yellows are from them. I thought it was a silver also, but the dark head and beak threw me off. I swear it's body looks blue, but the feather tips are white....nixity wrote:Donna, aren't your birds colony bred?
Could it be possible that this chick is not necessarily from the same daddy, or that a different female laid an egg in the nest so the baby is an unintentional foster?
Is the father a SF Yellow?
In any case - I would bet money that it is a WB or LB SF Pastel Blue (visual silver) cock.

BTW.... mom sits in the nest (and dad) with them most of the day, but they are neither one feeding any longer. Strange... so I have had to handfed them the last two days. Here are up to date pictures of the bird in question.

Re: Gouldian babies
I can't wait to find out what that adorable little guy is! I looked at a lot of silver chick photos and they all had white(pink) beaks. Tiffany you posted this before:
**SF Pastel Blue males that are WB or LB (so, a WB or LB visually Silver that is "SF Yellow") will have dark beaks while in the nest.
Donna's chick has a dark beak.
