The lack of yellow on the belly of a blue mutation gould is due to the bird's inability to produce/deposit yellow pigment, which is what causes the bird to have a blue body. While blue goulds also can sport a wide variation of blue shades, the belly color really doesn't have anything to do with it.

The head, breast, belly, and body colors work independently of each other. However, the breast color of SF Yellows does influence the body color. And, due to how the yellow and blue mutations work, that also impacts the head colors (i.e., the black head on a yellow and the red head on a blue).

Thanks Michelle, I do understand the blue mutuation a little better than the yellow mutation! I was commenting that I've never seen in a yellow, the white breast changing the color of the yellow on it's back. I have, however, noticed that on a blue back bird with a white breast, the belly is less tan and more white.
