Offsprings Genetic Forecasts

Post by ikhom » Sat Feb 05, 2011 12:46 pm

I was creating Offsprings Forecast for my website (finchbreederdatabase.com) and here are some results (no login or registration required):
Gouldian Finch - Genetic Forecast

It also includes AY mutation, but I didn't map all the combination AY with other mutations yet.

I've also created offsprings forecast for other species: RTPF, BFPF, Emblema and Owl Finch and the list is growing.

Thanks Candace,
The system is designed to add other mutations later, and I'm planing on adding cinnamon mutation after reading the posts about it here on Finch Forum. There is a lot I can improve, not only with Gouldians, but with all other species.

Just awesome ikhom! I don't know how you figure this stuff out but the results are amazing. I will be using this in the future.

I didn't. I did it only for two mutations and then I made computers do the rest of calculations. If you look at the forecast page, at the bottom on the right you will see the button 'show tables'. It will show all the combinations that were calculated and the results that we see are grouped by genotypes or phenotypes. Actually it can calculate all genotypes and phenotypes unless I overwrite it so I had to defined only pictures and only for about 140 combinations (for Gouldians).

I'm not sure I understand the body colors?

Where is the Silver and Pastels?

You don't select phenotype, you have to select genotype.

To get Silver Body you need SF or DF Yellow Back and DF Blue Body,
for Pastel you need to select SF Yellow Back + DF Blue Body + Purple Chest.
If you move cursor over icons that represent mutations description will appear.

Great work. I'm not so sure it's going to be understood by newbies though. :(

It is possible to add description on top of the forecast if it helps explain how it works; as I'm doing for Budgies right now.
For the newbies I would suggest to begin with simpler species like RTPF of BFPF. They have only two mutations at this moment. One is recessive and one is dominant; one is sex-linked and one is autosomal. A newbie still has to learn and understand the basics of genetics, but I hope, playing with forecast will help.

Thanks Liz. And I'm not finished yet! I was reading about all these other mutations for Gouldians like lutino/albino, dilute (Australian) and cinnamon. I'm thinking of creating simple and expert modes. With Australian Yellow and dilute, lutino/albino and cinnamon available only in expert mode; other way it becomes very intimidating.

Hello and thank you for this software.

How would I forecast with a BH/BP/GB Dilute split to blue?

Thanks,
SteveG
