So this is my first post on this forum, be gentle!

Anywho, I have a pair of gouldians that I'm breeding with unexpected results. The male is BH/PB/SF Yellow (dilute) and the female seems to be BH(YTB)/PB normal. They produced 4 babies that are now all starting to get their colors. The 2 female babies have lovely black feathers coming in on their heads. The 2 males, however, have red feathers coming in on their faces.

I emailed the breeder I got the birds from and he told me what their parents were and said that since each of them has a red headed parent, it's understandable that their babies would have red heads. Everything I've read so far, however, indicates to me that 2 black headed birds shouldn't be able to produce red headed babies. My friend suggested to me that the female could possibally be "dirty" yellow headed instead of BH(YTB), which would explain the red headed males. But if she is YH she's hiding it very well because I examined her and there's absolutely no color but black in her head. Sorry if my post is kind of long-winded, but I thought giving the most possible info would help anyone that may know what's going on
