Male or Female?

not sure if this is the right forum, but a few other people asked for sexing help here, so i hope i don't get throw to the wolves

so i went to a tiny "bird fair" at a local pet store over the weekend and unexpectedly ended up getting a new gouldian. the people i got him from told me that he was about a year old and, well, male. i'd like to think if they had this bird for a year they'd know it's sex for certain. when i got him home, however, and observed him for a while "he" seems to be more of a she to me. i realize it's a new bird, so it may be a male that's just not comfortable enough to sing yet, but so far it's only made the "chirp chirp chirp" that i find my females do when calling for the males. also, his/her chest seems to be a little too light to be male, but too dark to be female. so what do you guys think?

This is going to be a stab in the dark for me
Going by the tail feathers, I am going to go with male.

Looks like one of mine so I'm going with hen because of the beak and breast color. There is a chance it's a lilac breasted male though, but I'm gonna say hen.

Congrats on your new Gouldian. Give it a couple of days to settle in.
It looks a little fluffed. It's either stressed or a bit chilled. I would give it a heatlamp if it stays fluffed for any length of time.
Congratulations again.

It's a hen.
She has a very nice red face, better than mine.
Yours is older, and they do get redder with age.
Here is my pair for comparison.

That's definitely a hen base on the head and breast colour.
Here's my male bird with the same colour for you to compare:

oh wow is he pretty! well i've had her for a couple weeks now and i've accepted the fact that i got myself a little girl. i'm slightly bummed because now i can't pair her up right away. so now i'm hoping that at least one of my new born babies is a handsome dilute suitor for her

or maybe i'll break down any buy a new dilute boy at the upcoming bird fair. my boyfriend won't mind TOO much if i come home with one extra bird!
