Gouldians

Post by ![= » Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:14 pm

Seeing as both my birds turned out to not what I had asked for, I wonder what this mix would make :)

I wanted two normal greenback, purple breasted birds.

What I got was a bh/pb/bb female and a bh/wb/gb male. I don't know what birds they came from so have no idea about double factor or anything. I'm not that good with gouldian genetics, and I'll be working on that :P

So what are the possibilities my birds could produce?

Oh I was looking for something like that! But I'm already confused.

What does ytb mean again? And in that website, for chest colour, purple/white - does that mean split to white? Or would it say split to like in the back colour it says split to blue?

Sorry. :(

On the Finch Information Center site there is a very good section on gouldian genetics to help you understand it:
http://www.finchinfo.com/genetics/lady_ ... /index.php
A very good free forecaster is from Carlos Matos and can be downloaded here:
http://clientes.netvisao.pt/carlmato/

As long as there are no hidden traits your not aware of you will get all Black Head.Purple Breast split to White Breast.Normal split to Blue body boys and girls.

YTB means yellow tipped beak
purple/white means purple split to white
They would be split to blue and I've got no idea why that site says the same thing differently. Don't blame you for being confused. :?

Thankyou everyone! I started writing all the combinations down then gave up, I think I've got it now.

Well we will see if my little goulds have any surprises when they have chicklets. Can't believe the male is a WB! They are moulting like crazy, everytime I go home there are feathers on the floor, on the bottom of the cage, and just everywhere! Yet visually the change looks so slow  I can't wait to see them in their adult feathers :D I'll do another thread when I'm back home, take a few pictures to show you all :)
