What do you cross a silver gouldian with ?

Post by BigBear0007 » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:26 pm

I might as well start a new thread here.
What would you cross a silver gouldian with?
A blue, split to blue or yellow?
I maybe getting a silver or two tonight.

Preferably a yellow split to blue - lacking that, a green split to blue.

What will be the outcome?
What colours could I expect?

Oh, I thought you had one of the Gouldian forecasters downloaded a while ago.

Check out this thread-

The second and fourth post give url's for each Gouldian forecaster. They are well worth having in your favourites or bookmarks.

I do, but you can't put in silver.

If I put it with a yellow, will I get more silvers?

If you put a sfingle factor yellow PLUS blue - that will show as silver in the forecasters.

Yes a yellow split to blue "should" give silver offspring.

If you breed a Yb/Bb hen to a YellowBlue (silver) male you would get
YellowBlue (silver) and Yb/Bb (Yellow body split to Blue body) males
YellowBlue (silver) and Yb/Bb hens

If you breed a Nb/Bb to a YellowBlue maleyou would get
SFYellowBlue (pastel) and SFYb/Bb (dilute) males
YellowBlue and Yb/Bb hens

Of course all this changes if there are hidden genes and/or white breasts

A really good free forecaster is from Carlos Matos. Here's the link the download it, well worth it.

To be a silver they would need 2 yellow AND 2 blue "genes"
SFYb and Bb would be a SFYellowBlue, visually a blue bird (pastel)

Actually if you put in either single or double factor yellow + blue for the male, it will show a silver cock in the forecaster (I just tried it).

which forecaster are you using that does that? I just tried the finch database one and it works so you have to put in 2 yellow and 2 blue otherwise "pastel" comes up with SFYb :?

The Gouldian Genetic Forecaster V3 from Carlos. It's truthfully the only one I ever use.

Male - sFY+B, WB or dFY+B, PB or WB = silver
(yes, WB with SFY+B)

I think that should be the same for both forecasters.

Ok, I think I see what your doing but just to be clear ... if it's a SFYellowBlue (sfyb+b) and "silver" then it has to have a WB or LB otherwise it will visually be blue. If that same bird had a PB then it would be what many call a "pastel". :)
