Dilute fawn compared to fawn
I just purchased a new finch and was told it is a dilute fawn. Can someone tell me the difference between a dilute fawn and a reg fawn male? A description and pictures or links to pictures to compare would be wonderful! I am having a hard time understanding some of the color differences. Thanks so much!

Re: Dilute fawn compared to fawn
Can you post a picture? I know depending on my pairs that some produce a richer darker fawn and others are washed out more.

Also on occasion Single Factor Florida Fancy hens have been mistaken for Fawn hens. The SF/FF hens will have a lighter (washed out) coloring but are usually easily distinguished by an even lighter flecking / streaking of color through out.

Thanks Cindy and Nagdabit. I really think he is a reg fawn male as he looks like the pictures of fawns I have seen on the internet. I have paired him with a fawn hen and hopefully will have eggs soon.
Here is a pic of him in my flight cage:

Does his tail have black or brown bars?

Beautiful birds Vargur!! I love the pied fawn ... stunning! Okay now I am even more confused!
My male has darker barring on his tail so what color does that make him? His body is definitely the fawn color, not the normal grey. Thanks everyone for the help.

Re: Dilute fawn compared to fawn
He is 100% fawn
If you look at http://www.efinch.com/species/fawnzeb.htm
then you can see that the fawn birds have also darker colored bars..
Like I said, sometimes the color can be dark to very light fawn.
Good luck with him and I hope you get some eggs soon

Thanks Vargur! I have him paired up with my female fawn. They have been nest building like crazy! So hopefully I will see eggs soon.

Re: Dilute fawn compared to fawn
Definately Fawn, if you were told he was a Lightback to, then may be he is split for it. So you could end up with some LB hens.
