ok this may sound like a silly question but ive noticed that my recent clutch of zebras to hatch have a very large teardrop. i tried to get a good photo for you guys to see, but this is it.
this baby probably has the smallest teardrop out of the rest, it was the only good photo i could get.

I *think* you may have some black-faced zebras there!
I am sure Vargur can tell you for sure. Do you have photos of the parents you could post?

parents couldnt possibly be split to black face, ive had them for over 3 years and have not a single black face produced, and now im really confused.

There's one more like this one and three others which are CFW's I'm pretty sure, which all have the large teardrops.

Well, they are not BF
but They could be splits for BC.
What color are the parents?
I have seen this "triangular" tearmark before,
and that was from my Lightback split for BC male.

This is the best photo I could find.
A very pretty LB female split for BC.
And your Baby finch is very cute!
Love the third photo!

Yep there exactly like that photo. I have also got three that are CFW with the triangular teardrop.
The parents are a fawn which I got from a pet store about 3 years ago and the father Is a fawn CFW pied. And his parents were a CFW hen and normal grey pied male, but this is the first time in 3 years that they have produced these babies.

We've gotten young 'uns that looked like those before as well. And as was the case with Vargur's birds, they were from our adults that are split to BC. We did notice with our guys however that by the time they molted into their "big bird feathers,'' the teardrops were no longer noticeable.

Finchman101: very lovely zebra chicks!
Looks like you got there a beautiful CFW female (last photo)
The BC could be a hidden gene in your finches. (the parents)
Sometimes a hidden gene can pop up when we least expect it
