Looks like it's stuck in molt and not fully colored yet. The white in the breast makes me think next molt it will most likely be a white breast. Here's a link to other blue breasts:

wow, that's crazy. i completely forgot my friend told me he was going to post that. that's my bird!

that picture was taken almost a year and a half ago. unfortunatly, she ended up molting out all the blue feathers. she is, however, now a beautiful solid white chested, orange headed bird. and so far, she's also proved to be my best gouldian mommy! she's raised a clutch on her own AND fostered a clutch from a pair of young parents that didn't realize babies need to be fed. #-o

and in case anyone is wondering, so far she's only produced visually purple chested birds, so i don't even know if her crazy blue coloring was just for her coloring up or if any babies might have it happen as well

Glad to hear what a wonderful mommy she is! By the picture it looks like she may have been melanistic by the streaks of dark in her belly coloring.

well the pet store i got her from is a birds only store. the lady that works in it has worked there for like 20 years. and she was nice enough to admit to me that she doesn't like small birds, so she doesn't know anything about them or care about them. so, personally, i'm glad i managed to snag her before she got sick or worse

i'd post a current pic, but she's in the middle of a molt and not looking too pretty

Wow I didn't know she belongs to you, well as debbie said she's a lucky bird but probably you're both lucky and meant for each other.

I've read a short article about melanistic gouldians. Like Debbie said after a while they will become WB, most of the time they just stuck on their molt.

Hi! I'm new at this forum but have Gouldian for many years...
I've got "blue breast" from pet store and he lost his blue breast after molt... He become a "normal" white breast but maybe with more blue than pure white...(see next photos to come...). I'm sure that weeks later, I've see brothers (but blue back with same "blue breast") of this guy in an other pet store and this birds have dark spots on back and on the head. I'am sure now that these birds are melanic one's...These birds surely lack of light...
I have an other male who have an "imperfect white breast" and hope that kind of "aberation" can produce one day "permanente blue breast"...Maybe it's impossible...
