Society finch genetics calculator

Post by finchlover1 » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:35 am

Hi everyone. Zebra breeder with a hundred problems you all solved. It was suggested that I get society's. I am going to look today. I found a while back a genetics "calculator" for zebras and the colors the babies would be. It's great.
Does anyone know if there is one for society finches and does it matter? I've seen societies and wouldn't be able to figure out what colors I have but I can now post pics!!! so someone here will definately be able to tell me what I will have. Any suggestions of anything? I'm going out this afternoon. I always wait to get responses here. Your my bird bible. Thank you so much to all. Lyn

this might help...it is Garrie Landry's society finch website...

There are a few combinations to get certain mutations.

Zebra, Gouldians, Java, CBM Shaft tail & Grasskeets

thank you. Ok, for a novice I feel pretty good about myself. My society's are 1 male and two female. It was really easy to sex by behavior. The lady that was going to take the extra confirmed my observation. The male apparently bonded with a female. The 3 have been together for a while. The extra female (she's a beauty) love her color, lost her mate a while ago but they all get along so my friend never took her out. Can I leave all three together? I really don't want to get rid of the female. She's a knockout in person. Could the male mate with both? Do Society's mate for life?
